Derek Bridgeland
Derek Bridgeland was born in the UK in 1948, a few years after WWII.

Like most kids from that time period, Derek’s father served in the armed forces. Derek always knew that he served with the RAF, but he never knew anything about his job until many years later. This was the result of being under the Official Secrets act, which continued for 40 years after WWII ended.

It was at this time that Derek discovered his father had been responsible for installing radar equipment in mosquitoes and other aircraft for nighttime raids.

At a very early age, like most kids, Derek started drawing and his father could see that he had potential. Being an artist himself, his father gave him a lot of guidance. It became quite obvious after a while that Derek had a genuine love for aircraft and other forms of transport.

Derek spent 3 years at night school perfecting light, shade and detail, which are clearly shown in his work today.

Derek has travelled the world numerous times in search of inspiration that he can draw upon for his artwork.

Today he lives in his favourite part of the world, the Sunshine Coast, located in Queensland, Australia.
